What is manual therapy?
Manual therapy is a set of hands-on techniques performed by a physiotherapist. Its aim is to restore normal joint mobility, reduce muscle tension, improve tissue elasticity and “release” restricted structures in the body. Depending on your needs we use, among others:
- joint mobilisations and manipulations (including the Kaltenborn concept),
- myofascial techniques,
- trigger point therapy,
- traction and neural mobilisation,
- deep tissue release.
This approach is based on an individual assessment of dysfunction and its precise treatment – without medication or invasive methods.
What does manual therapy help with?
Manual therapy is used for both acute injuries and chronic complaints. It is worth considering if:
- you have back pain, neck pain or lower back pain,
- you have restricted range of motion in a joint (shoulder, hip, knee, ankle),
- you suffer from muscle tension, stiffness and overuse,
- you have symptoms of sciatica or carpal tunnel syndrome,
- you experience headaches, dizziness or numbness originating from the cervical spine,
- you are recovering after an injury or orthopaedic surgery.
What does a manual therapy session at Fizjo-Fan look like?
Every visit begins with a history and a functional examination. We assess tissue tension, range of motion and body symmetry, and locate the primary source of the problem. We then select techniques that allow us to:
- reduce pain and tension,
- improve mobility and movement function,
- activate the body’s self-repair mechanisms,
- speed up recovery.
Improvement is usually noticeable after the very first session, and a full course of treatment takes from a few to a dozen or so sessions. Sessions are available in English – our physiotherapist in Warsaw works with many expats.
Manual therapy versus other methods – why choose it?
Compared with classic massage or passive treatments, manual therapy works precisely and at the cause, gives faster results and supports the natural regeneration of tissue. It gives the best, lasting results in combination with medical training – which is why at Fizjo-Fan both are delivered by the same person, in one place.
Where needed, we complement manual therapy with dry needling, pin therapy or IASTM.
